All eyes will be on the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Friday night for the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 championship battle between No. 1 St. John Bosco and No. 2 Mater Dei. The showdown comes a little more than a month after Bosco shutout the Monarchs 28-0.
Bosco advanced to the championship game with a hard-fought 43-42 win over Corona Centennial last week. Despite the loss, the Huskies move from No. 4 to No. 3 in the latest rankings.
Mater Dei advanced to the title game by cruising by former No. 3 Sierra Canyon 42-14.
In addition to being No. 1 and No. 2 in the state rankings, the two are also ranked at the top of the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.
Granite Hills (El Cajon) continues its climb in the statewide rankings. The Eagles are up seven spots this week to No. 6 after a one-point win over former No. 5 Lincoln in the San Diego Section Open Division championship game. The Hornets fall two spots to No. 5 this week.
