The annual showdown between two of the most decorated high school football programs in Rhode Island high school football history will have to wait. Top-ranked Bishop Hendricken was scheduled to play No. 2 La Salle Academy on Saturday, but the game has been cancelled because Hendricken is in COVID-19 protocol.
BH, which is looking for its third straight state title this year and 10th in the last 11 years, could play their arch-rivals in the postseason. If Hendricken wins a state title this year, it would give the Hawks 16 overall, which would time them with La Salle for the most all-time in the state. La Salle last won a state championship in 2017.
