The Buffalo Bills and ADPRO Sports are proud to once again partner to recognize some of the best coaches that Western New York has to offer through the 2022 High School Football Coach of the Week Program.
The Bills and ADPRO Sports will be awarding varsity head tackle football coaches with the Coach of the Week Award to highlight not only their team’s achievements on the field, but also some of the work they are doing off the field in their communities. We will announce winners from the Buffalo and Rochester Regions over the course of 11 weeks, with both regions’ Coach of the Year being named during the Buffalo Bills vs New England Patriots game in January of 2023 at Highmark Stadium.
Each Coach of the Week winner will receive an $1,000 grant from the Buffalo Bills and ADPRO Sports. The respective Coach of the Year winners will also receive an additional $1,000 for their programs. Winners will be selected by a panel of local high school football experts.
Buffalo Region Coach of the Week # 1
Roy-Hart/Barker/Lyndonville coach Joe Suhr has been named the week one Buffalo Region Coach of the Week after he led the Silverbacks to a 22-20 win over Alden in the opening game of the season.
The Silverbacks trailed 20-6 late in the third quarter before starting a rally. Roy-Hart scored the tying TD with less than 3 minutes left and then scored a 2-point PAT for the winning margin. RBL converted a 4th-and-1 situation late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Coach Suhr is in his third year as the coach of the Silverbacks, helping grow the program from an 8-person football team back to 11 on 11 football. One of Coach Suhr’s main objectives as a coach is simply to provide an opportunity for kids in his community to play football. In addition to his duties as varsity football coach, Coach Suhr teaches History in the Lyndonville CSD, and coaches varsity wrestling.
Throughout the year Coach Suhr hosts several fundraisers to help athletes raise money for camps and volunteers as the Director of a youth wrestling club in Lyndonville. A community organization that Coach Suhr is heavily involved in is Madison Nation, a charity that raises money for families that have a child battling pediatric cancer.
To grow the game of football in his community, Coach Suhr helps run an elementary school flag football program and has worked with local youth football programs in the past as a coach as well.
Coach Suhr has taken a number of steps to grow his Varsity program throughout the year and develop his players including instituting USA Football tackling protocols, hosting team building dinners each week, building a weightlifting program, and participating in 7on7 off-season football.
Rochester Region Coach of the Week # 1
East Rochester/Gananda coach Tim Rose was named the Rochester Region Coach of the Week for week one, after leading the Bombers to a 32-12 win over Vertus High School.
In the win over Vertus, East Rochester rushed for over 300 yards and scored 5 touchdowns on offense, and on defense they combined for 8 total sacks, helping Coach Rose secure his first win as the ERG head coach.
Coach Rose, a first-year head coach, who was named to replace Brian Touranjoe in February, served as the Special Teams coordinator last season. Coach Rose is in his 5th year teaching Middle School Health and Physical Ed, at East Rochester.
Last season, the Bombers finished 12-1 and won the Section 5 Class C title advancing all the way to the Class C State semifinal game for the first time in school history. To maintain their success on the field Coach Rose focused on providing continuity for the program by working with the same offensive and defensive coordinators, pushing his student athletes to participate in their weightlifting program, and having the players focus on their academics.
