For the first time since 1968, LaSalle-Peru’s football program finished with a perfect record. As a result of the team’s 5-0 season, head coach Jose Medina is the Week 6 High School Coach of the Week for the National Football League’s Chicago Bears.

Medina led his team to a 21-20 victory vs. Kaneland in their final game to finish the season, marking their first undefeated season since the late 60’s. It was the team’s second straight game come-from-behind victory.
The victory landed LaSalle-Peru in the No. 9 spot in the final Associated Press 5A state rankings. Medina was named the head coach in 2015 after 13 years as an assistant coach. He is also a special education teacher and has worked at LaSalle-Peru since 2002.
The Chicago Bears “Coach of the Week” program was launched in 1996. The “Coach of the Week” program honors outstanding Illinois high school coaches who develop players’ football skills and knowledge, character, leadership, discipline and teamwork abilities.
