The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the Coach of the Week honors for the seventh week of the 2023 season. The Week Seven awards go to Lee’s Summit North Head Coach Jamar Mozee (Missouri) and De Soto Head Coach Brian King (Kansas).

As a result of this honor, the awarded schools will receive a $500 grant from the Hunt Family Foundation. Additionally, the coaches will be presented a pair of sunglasses, courtesy of Oakley, a congratulatory commemorative Super Bowl LVII coin and a certificate recognizing their selection. These coaches are now qualified for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which will be voted on later this fall. The Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award is selected by a panel comprised of the Missouri and Kansas Boards from the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association.

Lee’s Summit North beat fellow undefeated Lee’s Summit West. The win moved the Broncos to 8-0 and has the program one win away from their first undefeated regular season in school history. Mozee credits this to the work put in by his coaches and players.

“It’s always an honor to be recognized by the Chiefs and their great organization,” Mozee said. “I’m proud of my players and coaches for their hard work and dedication last week. Everyone did an outstanding job.”

De Soto won its fifth straight game to move to 6-1 on the season. The Wildcats only loss is to current Kansas Class 6A No. 1 undefeated Washburn Rural. King and his team are appreciative for this honor.

“I am very proud of our players and coaching staff for all their hard work this past summer and this fall to get us to where we are at this year and for earning this award,” King said. “We have some great young men on this team who work hard and give their best every Friday night. I appreciate the humble and hardworking attitude that this team has, and how they always put the team’s goals first!”

In its 27th season, the 2023 High School Coach of the Week is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League. This program is designed to recognize and reward Kansas City area high school coaches for superior performance on a weekly basis while honoring individuals who are shaping today’s youth and tomorrow’s leaders.

The Kansas City Chiefs partner with PrepsKC to select Coaches of the Week from Missouri and Kansas each week. PrepsKC is the only complete multimedia coverage of high school football in the Kansas City Metro. For the last 14 years it has combined a dynamic web site, weekly magazine and comprehensive weekly radio show.
