The top two teams in Kentucky — Trinity and Male — are going to test themselves outside of their state border in 2021. Both teams have released their 2021 schedules that feature out-of-state opponents.

Two-time defending state champ Trinity is no stranger to challenging itself outside of Kentucky. In the fall, the Rocks will play six non-Kentucky teams from four different states.

August 20 – vs. Carmel (Indiana)
August 28 – Archbishop Moeller (Ohio) at Norwood HS
September 3 – vs. St. Rita (Illinois)
September 10 – vs. La Salle (Ohio)
September 17 – at Male
September 24 – vs. St. Xavier
October 1 – vs. St. Xavier (Ohio)
October 8 – vs. Ballard
October 15 – vs. St. Mary’s (Missouri)
October 22 – vs. Eastern
Male, which finished No. 2 in the state last year and No. 110 in our national rankings, will play OOS teams. The Bulldogs open at home against Indiana’s Floyd Central and then take to the road for an October 1 showdown with Louisiana-power John Curtis.

And, let’s not forget the showdown between the two on September 17. These two have won the lasts seven Class 6A titles. Trinity took the title in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2020. Male captured the crown in 2015 and 2016.
Since 2014, Male holds a 6-5 lead in the series, which has included a regular season matchup and a postseason matchup on four occasions.
And, if that’s not enough, both teams will also play their longtime rivalry games with Trinity taking-on St. Xavier the week against its game against Male. The Bulldogs will close-out the regular season against Dupont Manual in the game simply known as The Old Rivalry. Last year’s Male/Manual game was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. This year will be the 139th between the two.
