Legendary Kentucky high school football coach Philip Haywood passes away

The high school football community is mourning the loss of one of the game’s greatest coaches. Belfry High School head coach Philip Haywood has passed away from injuries sustained in a one-car crash over the weekend.

The 73-year old Haywood became the head coach at Belfry in 1984. In fourteen state championship appearances, Belfry’s squads won eight state titles.

Haywood was nine wins shy of 500 lifetime wins after his team finished 11-3 last season. His overall record is 491-160 in 50 seasons as a head coach.
