History will not be made in Louisiana Friday night when John Curtis plays Edna Karr. Curtis legendary head coach J.T. Curtis would have become America’s all-time winningest head football coach, if the Patriots beat Karr, the top team in the High School Football America Louisiana Top 10, powered by NFL Play Football. However, the Louisiana High School Athletic Association has just revealed that instead of having 621 coaching victories, Coach Curtis only has 591 wins.

Prior to the LHSAA proclamation today, everyone was celebrating JC’s win against Brother Martin last week that tied him with the late John McKissick, the legendary South Carolina coach, for the most all-time high school football coaching victories.

The reason for the discrepancy in wins is because the LHSAA stripped the school of 30 wins between 2013 and 2015. That decision wasn’t made today, it actually occurred eight years ago.

The reason for the forfeits was the state’s governing body determined that a JC player had lived with an assistant coach.

The LHSAA is a member of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), which is the official keeper of its members’ sports records.

“The LHSAA recognizes the NFHS win/loss record for Coach J.T. Curtis as 591-109-7,” said Chris Bonine of the NFHS. “This record reflects 30 victories forfeited due to LHSAA sanctions between 2013 and 2015.”

McKissick’s record stands at 621-156-13.
