One week after its big win over St. Thomas More, Catholic (Baton Rouge) was surprised in overtime by unranked University Lab (Baton Rouge). The 27-21 loss drops the Bears from No. 1 to No. 3 in the latest High School Football America Louisiana Top 10, powered by NFL Play Football, and brings University Lab into the Top 10 at No. 8.

With Catholic’s drop, Ruston moves from No. 3 into the top spot with a perfect 3-0 record. The Bearcats have now beaten back-to-back out-of-state opponents — Cabot (Arkansas) and Longview (Texas).

Longview entered the Ruston game ranked No. 199 in the HSFA 300 national rankings. That victory lifted the Bearcats from No. 99 to No. 71 in America.

This week, Ruston will play another Texas opponent, Midland Legacy. It will be the second of three straight games against teams from the Lone Star State.

Acadiana moves from No. 7 to No. 2 after beating two-time reigning Select Division II champ St. Thomas More 20-7.

Archbishop Rummel is one of three new teams breaking into the Top 10 this week. The Raiders sit at No. 6. This week, they’ll play No. 5 John Curtis in 5A District 9 play.
