Opelousas is no longer a 2023 Louisiana high school football champ. Thursday, the Louisiana High School Athletic Association denied the school’s appeal to have its Non-Select Division 2 state title reinstated.

At the end of February, the LHSAA stripped the Tigers of the title for the use of an ineligible player. It was the school’s first ever high school football championship.

In addition to forfeiting all of its wins, including its 24-13 win over Cecelia in the championship game, head coach Jimmy Zachery has been suspended for one season.
