Marist wins first Georgia high school football title since ’03

Marist beat Jefferson 30-14 Tuesday in a battle of unbeatens for Georgia’s Class 4A high school football championship. It was the War Hawks first state title since 2003 and third overall.

This one was tight into the fourth quarter with Marist leading 16-14 when Ian Otten gave the War Hawks a nine point lead.

The win gave Marist head coach Alan Chadwick 399 lifetime victories.

The Marist defense was stellar all year long, giving up an average of 3.9 points per game.
