Mater Dei finishes the season where it started it, No. 1 in the High School Football America California Top 25 high school football rankings, powered by NFL Play Football. The Monarchs, who also won the HSFA national championship, were ranked at the top of our preseason rankings created with our proprietary algorithm. It’s the fifth time since 2017 that Mater Dei has finished No. 1 in the state.
St. John Bosco, the only team to beat Mater Dei this season, finishes a close No. 2. Since 2016, the Braves have finished No. 1 in the state three times and No. 2 five times.
Corona Centennial places third after an outstanding 9-3 season. The Huskies only loses were to Mater Dei, St. John Bosco and Nevada state champ Bishop Gorman. Nationally, those teams finished No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 respectively.
Sierra Canyon is ranked No. 4. The Traiblazers only loss was to top-ranked Mater Dei in CIF-Southern Section Division 1 semifinals.
Rounding-out the Top 10 is Serra (San Mateo), losers to Mater Dei in the state Open Division championship.
