Missouri tops Kansas in all-star football game

GKCFCA logoFor the fifth year in a row, Missouri beat Kansas in the Kansas vs. Missouri High School All-Star Football Game.  The 35-7 victory gives the Sho-Me State a 12-11 lead in the series.

Defensive back Jake Gassman of Kearney High School was the Missouri MVP.  Gassman had a 62-yard punt return.

At halftime, the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association inducted its inaugural Hall of Fame class.

In addition to coaches, former Olathe North High School (Kansas) star Darren Sproles was honored.  After high school, Sproles went-on to star at Kansas St. and is currently member of the Philadelphia Eagles, his third NFL team.

According to KansasCity.com, here are the current and former coaches that will be honored with a display at Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City ChiefsCecil Patterson (Southeast), Al Davis (Rockhurst), Moe Werner (Bishop Ward), Len Mohlman (Bishop Miege), Al Woolard(Lawrence), Ted Chitwood (Raytown), Joe Mintner (Park Hill), Gennaro Mirocke (St. Joseph Shawnee), Larry Taylor (Shawnee Mission North), Joe Monachino (St. Pius X), Dave Bassore (Center and Olathe North), Paul Montiel (O’Hara), Vic Bonuchi (Excelsior Springs), Bruce Young (Raymore-Peculiar), Tony Severino (Rockhurst), Sam Brown (Grandview, SM North and Excelsior Springs), Chip Sherman (Platte County, SM East and Olathe Northwest), Fred Merrell (Blue Springs and St. Mary’s), Harold Wambasgans (SM West and Lee’s Summit), Bud Wheeler (Olathe and Ottawa), Gil Rector (Lexington), Gene Wier (Olathe North), Steve Rampy (Blue Valley) and Dick Purdy (SM West).

Former Chief Bill Maas, who played his high school football in Pennsylvania was inducted as an associate member.
