Bishop McDevitt sophomore quarterback Stone Saunders is Pennsylvania’s Big School (Class 4A-6A) Mr. Football for 2022. Saunders was honored Saturday night along with Small School (Class 1A-3A) Mr. Football Jeff Hoenstine of Central Martinsburg.
The awards are sponsored by SportsRecruiters.com and owner Wayde Marsico. The winners were determined by fans and media members.
Saunders, who couldn’t attend the event due to a visit to Notre Dame, led McDevitt to the state’s 4A state title last fall. Saunders, who already has 23 college football scholarship offers, passed for 3,583 yards and 54 touchdowns in ’22.
Big School finalists were junior QB Samaj Jones of St. Joseph’s Prep, senior RB/S Abubakarr Kamara of Interboro, senior RB/LB Jaheim White of York High and senior QB/S Ryan Palmieri of Pine-Richland.
Hoenstine is a three-time All-State selection. In 2022, the senior threw for 3,996 yards and 57 touchdowns. His record was 34-4 as the team’s starting quarterback.

Finalists for the Small School award were junior QB Alex Erby of Steelton-Highspire, senior RB/QB Braeden Wisloski of Southern Columbia, senior QB/S Karson Kiesewetter of Bishop Guilfoyle, junior RB/S Quinton Martin of Belle Vernon and senior OT/OG/DT J’Ven Williams of Wyomissing.
