Xaverian Brothers head coach Al Fornaro is the 2023 New England Patriots High School Coach of the Year. Coach Fornaro is now the National Football League team’s nominee for the Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year Award.
The Shula Award salutes high school coaches for their character and integrity, leadership, dedication to the community, commitment to player health and safety and on-field success.
This past season, Fornaro led Xaverian to the Massachusetts Division 1 state championship. He was also was the team’s 10th Coach of the Week.
The National Football League will select two Shula Award winners, one from each conference (AFC/NFC). The winners will be honored at the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl LVIII. Nike supports this program by providing the two Don Shula Award winners with $10,000 each, and their high school football programs each with $15,000. Additionally, the other 30 finalists will receive $1,000.
