Sooner-or-later one state was going to make the first move on the 2020 high school football season. New Mexico is that state after the New Mexico Activities Association announced Thursday that it is moving high school football and soccer from the Fall to the Spring sports season due to the coronavirus.

“Education based athletics are an important part of the educational process,” said New Mexico Activities Association Executive Director Sally Marquez. “The NMAA will work tirelessly to ensure all students have the opportunity to participate in all sports and activities of their choosing during the 2020-2021 school year.”

The postponement announcement also states that the NMAA should have a tentative plan for the entire school year around July 15th.
