New York adds an extra high school football game in 2020

New York high school sin the New York State Public High School Athletic Association will be allowed to play an eighth regular season game this year. The NYSPHSAA Executive Committee has approved a rule change that will allow teams to play a Week 0 game on September 4 or 5.

The Week 0 regular season game would take the place of a scrimmage that can currently be play ten days after the first practice. Schools can continue to hold a scrimmage, instead of playing the extra regular season contest.
