The Jets named Jay Graber of Matawan Regional High School in Aberdeen, NJ as this week’s High School Coach of the Week. Coach Graber will receive a $1,000 donation to benefit the school’s football program. Along with the monetary award, Matawan Regional High School will receive an automatic bid to compete in the 2024 New York Jets 11-ON Tournament.
Coach Graber will be invited to attend the New York Jets vs. Houston Texans game on Sunday, December 10th, where he will be honored on-field at MetLife Stadium.
In its 28th year, the Jets High School Coach of the Week award is given to a coach in the Tri-state area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school, and their student-athletes.
The Matawan Regional Huskies rallied to their first win of the season, topping previously undefeated Brick Township 18-13. Graber grew up in Milestone Township and attended Notre Dame High School, where he played quarterback for the varsity football team. He went on to play at Bryant University and threw for over 1,600 yards and 13 touchdowns during his senior year. Graber is now in his 9th season as head coach of Matawan and has a 79-55 overall record. Last year, the Huskies were 5-0 in the Shore conference.

For 10 weeks during the football season the Jets and Gatorade present the High School Coach of the Week award to a coach in the tri-state area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to his community, his school and his student-athletes. Gatorade and the Jets award each winner with a $2,000 check for their high school’s football program. In addition to the weekly award, a Coach of the Year is selected at the end of the high school season. The Coach of the Year winner is awarded $4,000 and receives a Gatorade cooler cart from the Jets and Gatorade.
