No. 1 Mater Dei beats No. 2 St. John Bosco in SoCal Showdown

Two-time defending High School Football America “mythical” national champ Mater Dei got out to a 21-3 lead Friday night against St. John Bosco and never looked back in a 38-24 victory on Bosco’s home turf in Bellflower, California.

The Monarchs were led by 5-star quarterback Bryce Young, an Alabama verbal commit, who was 19-for-32 through the air for 257 yards with three touchdowns. Young, a 5-star recruit, also ran for 79 yards with two touchdowns. Young’s main target was Kody Epps, who caught 11 balls for 175 yards with three touchdowns.

Bosco’s 5-star QB DJ Uiagalelei finished 17-of-31 for 320 yards with two TD’s.

Everyone now turns their attention to a possible second matchup between the two, which has happened three years running. In 2016 and 2018, the team that won the regular season Trinity League matchup has lost in the playoffs.
