Next week, high school football fans will get the much anticipated No. 1 versus No. 2 matchup between Mater Dei and St. John Bosco. However, Friday night JSerra almost wrecked it.
JSerra, ranked No. 140 in the High School Football America 300, powered by NFL Play Football, had two leads in the first half against the reigning HSFA national champ. The Lions led 6-0 and 13-7 in the Trinity League opener for both teams.
Mater Dei took the lead for good (14-13) at the end of the first half on a touchdown pass from Elijah Brown to Marcus Harris. It was the first of two TD’s for Harris, who had three catches for 105 yards.
In the third quarter, Brown and Harris hooked-up on a 51-yard scoring play.

No. 2 St. John Bosco held-up its end of the bargain with a 49-7 win over Servite.
The Mater Dei/Bosco game will be played Friday night at Santa Ana Stadium.
