Berkeley Prep’s 2023 regular season was non-descript. The Buccaneers took a 7-2 record into their season finale. However, a 42-7 crushing of nationally-ranked Bolles School may have been a sign of things to come.
In the third round of the playoffs on November 24, the Bucs reversed their regular season loss to Clearwater’s Calvary Bapitist. That set-up a showdown with national-power American Heritage of Plantation, ranked No. 12 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.
BP shocked everyone with a 17-14 take-down of the Patriots. That moved the Bucs into our national rankings at No. 109, heading in the 2M state final against No. 15 Norland.
Saturday, Berkeley pulled-off another huge upset, handing the Vikings their first loss of the season. The 28-20 decision gives the Bucs their first-ever Florida high school football championship.
According to Josh Wilson of FloridaHSFootball.com,
Berkeley Prep held the ball almost 32 minutes and never trailed in knocking off Norland 28-20 at Bragg Memorial Stadium and Ken Riley Field on the Florida A&M campus in Tallahassee.”
