Last year’s historic state championship for Dallas South Oak Cliff has turned into back-to-back Texas high school championships. Friday night, at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, SOC beat Port Neches-Groves 34-24 for the Class 5A Division II championship.
The win capped a season that saw the Bears, ranked No. 114 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, start 0-3 against a very difficult schedule. Two of those losses came against state finalists No. 11 Duncanville and No. 19 DeSoto. Both of those teams will play for state titles on Saturday.
The 2021 SOC title was the first for a Dallas public school since 1958.
