Toledo Central Catholic, ranked No. 128 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, beat No. 18 Archbishop Hoban 28-21 Thursday night at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium for Ohio’s Division II state championship. It is TCC’s first state title since 2014. Hoban finishes runner-up for the second straight year.
Hoban fought back from a 21 point halftime deficit with Ohio’s Mr. Football Lamar Sperling carrying the ball 40 times for a Division II title-game record 356 yards and three touchdowns.
Sperling set single-season state records with 3,867 yards and 58 touchdowns,
Central Catholic finishes 15-1 with a 15-game losing streak after losing its opener 23-20 to defending Division I champ St. Edward.
