History repeated itself, again, Friday night, as Mater Dei, No. 2 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, dominated No. 1 St. John Bosco 35-7 to win the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 championship. The win avenged the Monarchs’ 28-0 loss to the Bosco on October 13. And, it marked the sixth time since 2016 that the regular season loser, won the playoff matchup.

The Mater Dei defense was outstanding, scoring on two Pick 6’s.

The game was played before over 11,000 fans at the famed Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. It’s the 13th overall CIF-Southern Section championship for Mater Dei, which will play in the State Open Division Championship game in two weeks.

An Open Division championship could give MD its fourth High School Football American national title. The Monarchs won our national crown in 2017, 2017 and 2021.
