No. 261 New Bern takes-down No. 93 Grimsley for North Carolina 4A high school football championship

For the first time since 2014, New Bern is a North Carolina high school football state champ. Friday night at Kenan Stadium at the University of North Carolina, the Bears, without throwing a pass, beat Grimsley 40-28 for the state’s 4A state title.

The game was close through three quarters with New Bern holding a 27-21 lead. However, on the first play of the fourth, Damaree Tucker ran for a 23-yard touchdown to give the Bears 33-21 lead that they wouldn’t give up.

The win will boost New Bern from its current No. 261 ranking in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football. Grimsley entered the game ranked No. 93 in our national rankings.

New Bern finishes a perfect 16-0, while Grimsley ends 15-1.
