No. 48 Aledo rolls to 12th overall Texas high school football state championship

Nationally-ranked Aledo fell behind Smithson Valley 8-0 on two field goals and a safety Friday night in the Class 5A Division I state championship at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. After that it was all Bearkcats, who rolled to a 51-8 win, giving the school its 12th overall Texas high school football championship in 14 title games.

Robby Jones, in his first year as Aledo’s head coach, is the third person to lead the Bearcats to a state championship. Tim Buchanan led Aledo to eight titles. Steve Wood owns the other three titles.
