Saturday’s showdown between nationally-ranked powers St. Peter’s Prep, No. 8 in the High School Football America 100, and No. 39 Bergen Catholic is off. The reason for the cancellation is that a St. Peter’s player tested positive for COVID-19.
The diagnosis means that SPP won’t be able to play until it meets Seton Hall Prep on Thanksgiving. The Marauders were scheduled to play nationally-ranked Delbarton and Pope John XXIII in Week 7 and 8 games.
This year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, New Jersey isn’t holding a postseason, so many saw Saturday’s game as the Non-Public Group 4 state championship game.
