No. 85 Long Beach Poly (California) opens 2023 high school football season with win in Hawaii

With Hawaii continuing to think about those on Maui, the 2023 high school football season opened on the other islands.

Nationally-ranked Long Beach Poly opened its season by scoring 53 straight points on its way to a 60-28 win over defending Division I Hawaii state champ Konawaena Friday night. The Jackrabbits, ranked No. 85 in the Preseason High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, trailed 21-7 in the second quarter, but then exploded behind senior quarterback Darius Curry, who completed 18 of 29 passing attempts for 253 yards and three touchdowns.

The 53 point outburst came during a 16-minute span in the second and third quarters.

Konawaena, ranked No. 8 in our Preseason Hawaii Top 10, was led by its senior quarterback Keoki Alani, who completed 32 of 51 attempts for 355 passing yards with three touchdowns.
