For the second year in a row, North Allegheny is near the top of the High School Football America Pennsylvania Top 25 after knocking-off Pittsburgh Central Catholic. Friday night, the Tigers, ranked No. 5 in our statewide rankings, beat the No. 2 ranked Vikings 35-21. Last year, North Allegheny beat the higher-ranked Vikings 11-10.

Last weekend’s win moves North Allegheny up to No. 2 this week.

The week’s other big head-to-head in the Top 25 was never played due to the coronavirus pandemic. The game between No. 4 Pine-Richland and No. 11 Gateway was canceled when two students at Gateway tested positive for COVID-19.

McDowell is up three spots this week to No. 6 after knocking-off No. 13 Cathedral Prep 24-10, which snapped an eight-game losing streak against the five-time state champion Ramblers. McDowell was led by quarterback Chris Juchno, who ran for two scores.

Aliquippa is new to the poll this week at No. 25. Former No. 19 Manheim Township drops-out after an 0-2 start.

Friday’s Game of the Week features No. 5 State College opening its season on the road against No. 3 Central Dauphin.
