Tim Roken, who led St. Joseph’s Prep to its second straight Pennsylvania Class 6A high school football championship, is the 2023 Philadelphia Eagles High School Coach of the Year. Roken is now a finalist for the the prestigious Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year Award.
SJP finished the year with a 13-1 mark with its only loss to national power IMG Academy (Florida) in the season opener. The Hawks were ranked No. 7 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.

“Over the past 14 years, Coach Roken has dedicated himself to building a culture that positively shapes the lives of his players and allows them to make a meaningful impact both on and off the field,” said Daniel Levy, Manager of Youth Football & Community Relations, Philadelphia Eagles. “Coach Roken’s on-field performance speaks for itself, but he is much more than a football coach. He is a leader of not only men, but an entire community. His passion for helping others reach their full potential is inspiring and why he is so deserving of this recognition. On behalf of the Eagles, I want to congratulate Coach Roken on being nominated for this distinguished honor.”
Roken holds an impressive 54-7 career record as head coach of St. Joe’s Prep. He was selected as the All-American Bowl East Coach in 2021, and in 2022, won the Eastern Pennsylvania High School Coach of the Year for Class 6A. He has led the program to four Class 6A state championships (2019, 2020, 2022, 2023) during his tenure and is an eight-time Pennsylvania State Champion.
The Shula Award salutes high school coaches for their character and integrity, leadership, dedication to the community, commitment to player health and safety and on-field success.
Next month, the National Football League will choose two winners, one from the AFC and one from the NFC, from the 32 team honorees.
Roken was one of eight high school coaches honored during the 2023 regular season.
