The annual Thanksgiving Day high school football game between Abraham Lincoln and Father Judge is over. School officials have announced they are pulling the plug on the contest that has been played for more than 40 years.

In a letter from Father Judge High School, the joint decision to sack the game was due in part to concerns about the “safety and security of players, referees, and attendees,” plus possible conflicts with the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) and District 12 playoff schedule.

Judge won last year’s game 24-14. The game ended when a fight broke out with less than a minute to play. There was no postgame handshake.

The win was the 33rd straight for Father Judge, who led the all-time series 44-3-1.
