Pierce County needs 3 OTs to win Georgia 2A high school football title

Pierce County now owns two Georgia high school football championships with both being won in overtime. Tuesday, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons, the Bears beat Rockmart 48-45 in three overtimes in the Class 2A championship game.

Caden McGatha scored on a 1-yard run to seal the victory. It was McGatha’s 53rd carry of the day. The junior finished with 244 yards on the ground.

Pierce County beat Oconee County 13-7 in one overtime to win the 2A championship in 2020.
