Now that the season is underway, the High School Football America algorithm truly begins to sort things out when it comes to our Southern California Top 25.

The top three teams all held their spots with #1 St. John Bosco and #3 Corona Centennial picking-up solid wins against good out-of-state programs.  #2 Mater Dei opened by crushing Bishop Amat behind a nearly perfect performance by sophomore quarterback J.T. Daniels.

The shuffle begins after the top three teams, as Mission Viejo, Narbonne and Oaks Christian move-up one spot to #4, #5 and #6 respectively.  All three picked-up impressive wins.  Mission Viejo beat Santa Margarita from the Trinity League, Narbonne beat former #13 Serra (Gardena) and Oaks Christian won a 65-55 shootout against former #4 Chaminade, which drops to #8.

La Mirada, which handed the Trinity League its second loss of the weekend, moves from #14 to #11 after a 21-14 win over former #10 Orange Lutheran.

Norco is the biggest mover this week as they enter the Top 25 at #19 after knocking-off Desert Ridge, which entered the game as our #1 team in our Arizona Top 10.  This week the Cougars will test that ranking against #14 Rancho Cucamonga in a Battle of Cougars. RC jumped four spots, as did Edison and St. Bonaventure.  Edison is #15 this week, while the St. Bonaventure moves to #18.

The Norco/Rancho Cucamonga game is one of four Top 25 vs. Top 25 games this week — #1 St. John Bosco vs. #11 La Mirada, #5 Narbonne at #11 Long Beach Poly and #18 St. Bonaventure at #7 Chaminade.

Corona Centennial, Oaks Christian and #21 Serra (Gardena) will be tested by very good out-of-state opponents in The Honor Bowl at Mission Viejo High School.  Corona Centennial will take-on IMG Academy (1-0), which began the year ranked #2 in our national rankings.  Oaks Christian will play the #2 in Pennsylvania, St. Joseph’s Prep. Serra will take-on St. Joseph Regional from Montvale, New Jersey.  The Green Knights began the year ranked #13 in our national rankings.

The other new team in our first in-season SoCal Top 25 is Palos Verdes at #23.  The Sea Kings beat former #17 Corona del Mar, which dropped-out of the rankings.  Also dropping-out was Redlands East Valley, which was hurt in the rankings by not opening the season until Friday against Etiwanda.
