When I wrote my book High School Football in Texas: Amazing Football Stories from the Greatest Players of Texas, one story stood out. It was the unlikely story of friendship between Earl Campbell and Ken Dabbs.

Coach Dabbs, who began his career as a Texas high school football coach, was the man that was responsible for recruiting the College Football and Pro Football Hall of Fame running back from Tyler, Texas to the University of Texas.
