Pools for the 2023 Texas State 7-on-7 tournament released

It’s time for the 25th annual Dave Campbell’s Texas 7-on-7 State Championships. The tournament, featuring 128 teams, will start Thursday with pool play and wrap-up on Saturday in College Station.

Six teams (No. 15 DeSoto, No. 31 Westlake, No. 167 Dripping Springs, No. 177 Lake Travis, No. 200 North Crowley, No. 208 Shadow Creek, No. 287 Byron Nelson) that finished 2022 ranked in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, are in Division 1. There are two HSFA 300 teams — No. 232 Carthage and No. 241 China Spring — in Division 2.

DeSoto, which won the ‘22 Class 6A Division II state crown in December, is the defending Division 1 champ. The Eagles also won the 7-on-7 crown in 2011.

2022 Division 2 champ Hitchcock and Division 3 champ Miles are also back to defend their titles.

The top two teams in each Division 1 pool will go into the championship bracket that will be played on Saturday. Divisions 2 and 3 will play their single-elimination championship bracket on Friday.
