Alcoa enters 2022 with the long active state championship streak in America. The Tornadoes won their seventh straight Tennessee state championship in 2021, which landed the school at No. 69 in the High School Football America 100 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.

The all-time record on the field is 14 that is held by St. Louis in Hawaii. The Crusaders won those between 1986 and 1999.

Sioux Falls Washington High School is also credited with 14 straight South Dakota state championships between 1951 and 1964. However, those titles were considered mythical, which means that Washington may have been named champs by media or another source.

Riverheads High School in Virginia, with less than 450 students, heads into 2022 having won six straight Virginia 1A titles. The Gladiators currently own the longest active win streak in the nation with 50 straight victories.

Southern Columbia in Pennsylvania will be going after six-in-a-row this year. With last year’s 2A title, the Tigers have now won five state titles in-a-row twice. They also did it from 2002 through 2006.

T.F. Riggs also won a fifth straight South Dakota high school football state championship last season.

Bryant High School in Arkansas enters the upcoming season with four straight 7A titles. The Hornets are the only team in the state’s biggest classification to go back-to-back-to-back-to-back.

Trying to match Bryant will be the Bixby Spartans out of Oklahoma. Bixby is currently on a 49-game win streak, which is the second longest active win streak in the nation.

2022 finds a large number of teams looking for a 4-peat.

  • Thompson enters 2022 looking for a four-peat in the Alabama’s largest classification (7A). The Warriors finished last season ranked No. 14 in the High School Football America 100.
  • Pulaski Academy has won three straight Arkansas 5A titles. The Bruins own 10 overall state titles.
  • Arkansas’ 3A crown went to Harding Academy for a third straight year in 2021.
  • Cherry Creek, coached by former NFL wide receiver Dave Logan, has won three straight Colorado 5A titles. The Bruins were ranked No. 70 in the nation last season.
  • In Florida, St. Thomas Aquinas, winners of 13 overall state titles, will be going for its fourth straight 7A title in ’22. The Raiders finished last year ranked No. 6 in the HSFA 100.
  • Fellow Floridian Miami Central is also on a roll with three straight. The Rockets, who finished No. 16 in America last year, will go after the 4-peat with a new head coach. Jube Joseph takes-over for Roland Smith, who moved on to the college ranks at the University of Miami.
  • Buford, Georgia’s reigning 6A champ, moves to 7A this year. The Wolves have won a state championship in every classification they’ve played in. No other team in Georgia holds that distinction.
  • Mill Valley captured the Kansas 5A title for a third straight time.
  • Anadale High School in Kansas won its third straight 3A title last season. The Indians currently own a 38-game win streak, the fourth longest active streak in 11-man football.
  • After back-to-back Massachusetts Division 2 titles, Springfield Central stepped-up to Division 1 and won a third straight state title.
  • Grand Rapids Catholic Central finished its third straight season without loss in winning Michigan’s Division 5 title. The Cougars have now won 37 straight.
  • McCallie won another Tennessee Division II-AAA title. The Blue Tornado ended last year ranked No. 39 in America.
  • Westlake enters this season on a 40-game win streak over winning its third straight state title in ’21. The Chaparrals will try to win another with legendary head coach Todd Dodge, who retired at the end of last season.

Alaska’s Soldotna High School saw its streak of eight straight state titles come to an end last year. The Stars’ drive for a ninth straight state title ended with a 39-28 loss to Lathrop in the Division II championship game.

Also seeing its long state championship streak end last year was South Carolina’s Dutch Fork. The Silver Foxes saw their streak end at five straight 5A titles when they lost to Gaffney in last year’s championship game.

In Arizona, Chandler also saw its five year streak come to a close when it lost to Saguaro in the Open Division title game.

Orem High School fell short in its drive for a record fifth straight Utah high school football state championship in 2021.
