Today marks the 35th anniversary of National Girls & Women in Sports Day.

On today’s Rewind Wednesday we celebrate the day with a 2017 podcast interview with Katie Hnida, who in 2003 made history by becoming the first female to kick an extra point in a Division I-A college football game. The history making event happened on August 30, 2003 when she kicked two extra points for the University of New Mexico in its 72-8 win over Texas State University.

During her senior season at Chatfield High School in Littleton, Colorado, Hnida was 3-for-3 in field goal attempts and made 27-of-28 extra points.

You can listen to my chat with Katie beginning at the 56:45 mark of the High School Football America Radio Show below.

This past college football season, Vanderbilt’s Sarah Fuller made history by becoming the first women to score a point in a Power 5 college football game.
