The Kansas City Chiefs have announced their Coach of the Week honors for the seventh week of the 2020 season. The awards go to Richmond High School coach Nick Persell and Shawnee Mission Northwest High School coach Bo Black.

As a result of this honor, both schools will receive a $500 player health and safety grant from the Hunt Family Foundation. Additionally, both coaches will be presented congratulatory footballs autographed by Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid and a certificate recognizing their selection. Both coaches are now qualified for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which will be voted on later this fall. The Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award is selected by a panel comprised of the Missouri and Kansas Boards from the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association.

Richmond finished its regular season at 7-1 with a 32-16 win over previously undefeated Lexington. The win earned the Spartans the Missouri River Valley Conference East championship and secured the No. 1 seed in the Missouri Class 3 District 8.

“Winning the Chiefs Coach of the Week is a great honor,” Persell said. “There’s been a lot of great coaches throughout the city that have received the award and I’m proud to be mentioned alongside their names. Proud of our kids last Friday night, they played a great game against a very good team.”

Shawnee Mission Northwest defeated Bishop Miege High School 27-24 to close out its regular season at 5-1 earning it the No. 2 seed in the Kansas 6A East Bracket.

“On behalf of our football program, school, and the Northwest community, I am honored to receive the Kansas City Chiefs Coach of the Week award,” Black said. “Our coaching staff and players strive to improve daily through hard work, on and off the field.”

In its 24th season, the 2020 High School Coach of the Week is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League. This program is designed to recognize and reward Kansas City area high school coaches for superior performance on a weekly basis while honoring individuals who are shaping today’s youth and tomorrow’s leaders.
