Jake Chesney is the new head coach at Sheridan High School, a 1A school about 30-miles outside of Indianapolis, Indiana. Chesney takes-over for Larry “Bud” Wright, Indiana’s all-time winningest high school football coach, who resigned in December.

For the past two years, Chesney, a graduate of Sheridan, who played for the Blackhawks, was an assistant under Wright.

In a December story WTHR-TV reported that Wright was “accused of verbal abuse of a player. That lead to a one game suspension in 2024. Wright said that he was given an ultimatum: resign or be fired.”

During Wright’s 59-years as the school’s head coach, Sheridan has won nine state championships. Wright has a lifetime record of 463-219. He’s a member of the Indiana High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame.
