Showdown Time in New Jersey Top 25 as No. 1 St. Peter’s Prep plays No. 2 Bergen Catholic

While 2020 high school football is very different due to the coronavirus, there’s nothing strange when it comes to huge high school football games in Northern New Jersey. On Saturday, top-ranked St. Peter’s Prep takes a short trip to Oradell to play No. 2 Bergen Catholic.

The winner of this game between these two nationally-ranked powers takes the North Jersey Super Football Conference United Red Division. SPP enters at No. 8 in the High School Football America 100, while BC is No. 39.

In another Top 100 showdown, No. 4 Don Bosco Prep comes out of its two-week Covid-19 quarantine to play play No. 5 St. Joseph Regional (Montvale). DBP is No. 66 in our national rankings, while SJR is one spot behind at No. 67.

Speaking of Covid-19, four teams in the High School Football America New Jersey Top 25 won’t be playing this weekend, which includes Thursday night’s scheduled showdown between No. 8 Lenape and No. 9 Cherokee.

No. 3 Delbarton, currently ranked No. 55 in the nation, has had two games canceled this weekend due to the pandemic. The Green Wave’s games against Morristown and Paramus Catholic fell by the wayside after both opponents had Covid-19 shutdowns.

No. 16 Clifton, in the middle of a quarantine, won’t be playing this week against Paterson Kennedy.

The biggest mover in the statewide rankings this week is St. Augustine, which jumps from No. 13 to No. 6 after beating former No. 7 Williamstown 17-16 in overtime. This week, St. Augustine plays No. 13 Holy Spirit.

In another Top 25 head-to-head matchup, No. 15 Northern Highlands plays No. 17 River Dell. The final intra-Top 25 contest pits No. 12 Wayne Hills against No. 18 Ramapo.

Two new teams enter the statewide rankings this week — No. 24 Mater Dei and Woodbridge at No. 25.
