Chad Morris head coachFormer Texas high school football coach and current SMU head football coach Chad Morris has an open-door policy for high school football coaches, according to a story on The Dallas Morning News

The newspaper is reporting that SMU has hosted more than 1,000 high school football coaches this spring, most of them from the state of Texas.  Morris led Lake Travis to two Texas state football titles and a 169-38 record in 16 years as a Lone Star State head football coach.

Morris has emphasized that building strong relationships with local coaches is one of his top priorities.

Morris, who took over at SMU in December, has hired several former Texas high school coaches, including DeSoto’s Claude Mathis and L.D. Bell’s Mark Smith.
