The 2015 Alaska high school football season kicked-off in a big way Friday night with defending Medium School champ Soldotna beating defending Big School champ Anchorage South 21-17.
The win was the 30th straight for the Stars, who broke the old Alaska record of 29 straight. In 2009, Soldotna won 29 straight to tie Anchorage East, which won 29 straight from 1985 to 1987.
Soldonta ran-out to a 21-7 halftime lead, even though star running back Drew Gibbs left in the first quarter with an injury. South also lost its starting quarterback, Jack Hanson, in the third quarter.
