Southern California’s No. 113 Edison (Huntington Beach) cancels games in Hawaii due to fires in Maui

Huntington Beach, California’s Edison High School won’t be playing its first two games of the season in Hawaii, because the deadly wildfires that have ravaged Maui. The Chargers, ranked No. 113 in the Preseason High School Football America 300 national rankings, have cancelled their 9-day trip because the team’s hotel is in the fire zone.

Edison was scheduled to play Baldwin Saturday and then Lahainalulu, ranked No. 9 in the HSFA Hawaii Top 10 preseason statewide rankings, the following Friday.

Edison head coach Jeff Grady told the Orange County Register, “I’ve talked to both athletic directors (for the Maui schools) and the games aren’t going to happen and they shouldn’t happen. The last thing on their minds is playing a high school football game. Our hearts go out to those people.”
