It was a back-and-forth regular season. When the smoke cleared after the Thanksgiving games, Staples finishes No. 1 in the High School Football America Connecticut Top 10 high school football rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.

Staples moved to the top of the statewide rankings after beating Greenwich, which spent the entire regular season at No. 1 until their annual Thanksgiving battle. The Gaels now head into the Class LL playoffs as the No. 1 seed.
