The town of Newton in east Texas is mourning the loss and celebrating the life of its head football coach W.T. Johnston who led his program to back-to-back high school football state championships while battling chronic lung disease and blindness. Johnston passed away Saturday night.

In December, Newton won its second straight state championship beating Canadian. After the game, Johnston gave an emotional post game interview.

In eight years as the school’s head coach, Johnston led his team to a record of 97-15. Last December,
