With five weeks to go before we crown our 2019 “mythical” national high school football champ, it was another fairly quiet week within the High School Football America 100 national high school football rankings.
Part II (the playoffs) of the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference 2019 season is responsible for the biggest shake-up near the top of the rankings that are created with our proprietary algorithm.
Good Counsel (Maryland) moves to No. 25 after beating former No. 20 Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) Friday night 44-17 in the WCAC semifinals. The victory improved upon the Falcons five overtime thriller during the regular season. Gonzaga drops to No. 35 in the latest rankings.
Good Counsel will face No. 19 St. John’s College High School (Washington, D.C.) in the WCAC championship game. SJC beat former No. 26 DeMatha (Maryland) in the semifinals. DeMatha falls to No. 37 in the latest rankings.
The St. John’s/Good Counsel showdown will come about a month after the Cadets beat GC 34-31 during their regular season matchup.
