Eight more weeks until we crown the 2023 High School Football America national champ. After 36 head-to-head matchups last week in the HSFA 300, powered by NFL Play Football, ten new teams enter the national rankings created with our proprietary algorithm.

At the top of the rankings, St. Edward (Ohio) solidified its position at No. 16 with a 14-7 win over previously unbeaten Archbishop Hoban (Ohio). St. Ed’s begins its drive for a third straight Division I state championship when the state playoffs begin this weekend. Hoban drops from No. 22 in the latest rankings.

In Chicago, No. 67 Loyola edged No. 32 Mount Carmel 23-21, snapping the Caravan’s 22-game win streak in a battle of reigning state champs. Loyola, the 2022 8A champs, rise to No. 39. MC drops eight spots to No. 40 this week.

Georgia private school, Rabun Gap-Nacoochee moves up 26 spots to No. 69 after taking down former No. 67 Providence Day (North Carolina) 42-27 to close-out a perfect 10-0 regular season.

Four of the ten new teams this week are re-entering the national rankings after dropping out after early season losses.

  • Jesuit (Florida) soars to No. 144 after knocking-off previously unbeaten Tampa Bay Tech (Florida). TBT falls from No. 110 to No. 146.
  • Chambers (North Carolina) beat former No. 215 West Charlotte (North Carolina) for its fourth straight win. The Cougars re-enter the Top 300 at No. 228. West Charlotte drops 16 spots to No. 231.
  • Wayne (Huber Heights, Ohio) sits at No. 291 after doubling-up former No. 207 Centerville 32-16. The loss drops the Elks to No. 293.
  • Lovejoy (Texas) re-enters at No. 299 after winning its fifth straight.

The first time entrants are:

  • No. 291 Edwardsville (Illinois)
  • No. 294 Archer (Georgia)
  • No. 295 San Ramon Valley (California)
  • No. 298 Fayetteville (Arkansas)
  • No. 300 Carrollwood Day (Florida)

As far as the national championship chase, all eyes will be on Texas this week. No. 8 Duncanville squares-off with No. 11 DeSoto for the District 11-6A championship. Duncanville is the reigning 6A Division I champ. DeSoto won the 6A Division II state title last year.

In another big battle in the Lone Star State, No. 19 North Shore plays No. 33 Atascocita for the District 21-6A title.
