Even though the 2020 Ohio high school football regular season is being shortened due to the coronavirus pandemic, the annual high school football between Massillon Washington and Canton McKinley, known as the War of 1894, is being played as normal…except for less fans in the stands. The 131st renewal of the rivalry will be played Saturday at Paul Brown Stadium on the campus of Massillon Washington High School.
Both teams enter the game ranked in the High School Football America Ohio Top 25. Massillon Washington is ranked No. 4 in our latest statewide rankings, while Canton McKinley is ranked No. 13.
Both teams bring 4-1 records into the contest. Massillon Washington’s loss came in its season opener against No. 3 St. Edward (24-23). Canton McKinley’s loss came September 19 at the hands of Massillon Perry (35-23).
Massillon Washington has won the last four in the series and eight of the last nine between the two. The Tigers also lead the all-time series 72-53-5.
