The top spot in the Preseason High School Football America Alabama Top 10, powered by NFL Play Football, belongs to three-time defending 7A champ Thompson. The Warriors are also highly-ranked nationally, starting 2022 at No. 17 in the nation.

Thompson, one of eight Alabama teams in our Top 300, will play one of the toughest schedules in the nation. In addition to its tough Region 3 schedule that includes No. 3 Hewitt-Trussville and No. 4 Hoover, the Warriors will play two highly-ranked out-of-state opponents.
Head coach Mark Freeman takes his team to the Atlanta-area next week to play Buford, ranked No. 3 in the our national rankings. Like Thompson, the Wolves have won three straight Georgia state titles.
A week later, the Warriors will face Tennessee state champ Lipscomb Academy, coached by former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer. The Mustangs are ranked No. 29 in the nation in our preseason rankings.
Falling-in behind Thompson at No. 2 is Central (Phenix City), the team that Thompson beat in the 7A state championship game last year.
Central will also play a tough schedule that includes national-power IMG Academy (Florida), ranked No. 7 in the nation. The Red Devils open against No. 3 Hewitt Trussville in a non-region game. They also have a non-region contest against No. 10 Opelika.
In Region 2 play, Central, ranked No. 38 in the nation, play No. 6 Auburn.
