After an 0-2 start, Thompson again sits atop the Alabama 7A classification. Wednesday night, the Warriors beat Auburn 49-24 at Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium to win their fourth straight 7A state championship.

Unlike Thompson’s last second come-from-behind win over Auburn in the 2021 championship game, Wednesday night, the Warriors scored on their first three possessions to take a 21-0 lead. 8th grade quarterback Trent Seaborn was named the game’s MVP after completing 12-of-14 passes for 207 yards with five touchdowns.

Both teams entered the game ranked in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football. Thompson was ranked No. 46. Auburn was ranked No. 48.

Thompson lost its first two games to out-of-state opponents — No. 13 Lipscomb Academy (Tennessee) and No. 40 Buford (Georgia). The Warriors only other loss was to No. 58 Hoover during the regular season. After a 9-0 loss to the Bucs in the regular season, Thompson beat Hoover 40-10 in the state semifinals.
